LEMON GRASS GARDENING TIPS:

Climate & Sunlight

Warm climate: Prefers tropical to subtropical climates.

Full sun: Needs at least 6–8 hours of sunlight daily.

Not frost-tolerant — grow in pots indoors during winter in colder regions.

Soil

Well-draining, loamy soil is ideal.

pH: Slightly acidic to neutral (6.0–7.0).

Mix compost or organic matter before planting.

Watering

Keep soil moist but not soggy.

Water regularly in dry periods.

Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Planting

Propagate from stalks: Use fresh stalks from the store with base intact.

Place the stalks in water until roots appear (about 2–3 weeks), then transplant to soil.

Space plants 24 inches (60 cm) apart to allow clump growth.

Maintenance

Trim dead leaves regularly.

Divide clumps every 1–2 years to promote healthy growth.

Fertilize monthly with a balanced organic fertilizer.

Harvesting

Best harvested when stalks are at least ½ inch thick.

Use a sharp knife to cut the stalks close to the ground.

Leaves can also be used for tea and infusions.
